Just the other day we had an adjuster ask one of our staff, ”How can you write frame time, you can’t even tell if the frame is bent?” First off, we don’t write for damage we can’t see, however there are many ways expert field damage appraisers can tell if there is frame movement by looking at the gaps or for indirect damage caused by such movement. Often, it’s difficult in the field to visually see the exent of frame damage on the frame itself especially if the frame is only slightly bent. Here’s a good example of what we have our appraisers at AutoClaims Direct do when such situations arise. Repair facilities can provide the frame specs and a computerized printout of the measurements on the damaged vehicle. This gives a exact documentation of the tolerances and how much the damage has misaligned it.
Here’s a photo one of our appraisers took the other day documenting such damage.
