Pay As You Drive Auto Insurance Working Way Through CA Assembly.

The California state legislature is working on a bill that would bring “Pay As You Drive” auto insurance to the Golden State. It would require tracking devices be installed in the vehicles of those who volunteer for the program and in turn participants may receive lower auto insurance if they drive less. This would encourage less driving which the legislature is pushing for. Privacy advocates oppose the bill and some consumer groups have said this will force those who don’t participate to pay higher auto insurance rates as insurers would make up for lost revenue by raising rates.

Here’s the current bill status which notes the legislation is up for a third reading on monday, August 25th.
